Klingele initially set out to find a new visualisation tool. During discussions, it quickly became clear that flexOn offers far more. Today, the platform not only provides energy monitoring but also forms the intelligent foundation of the company’s flexibility strategy.

The Klingele Paper & Packaging Group is an internationally active manufacturer of corrugated base papers and corrugated packaging. Its broad product portfolio includes corrugated base papers made from recycled fibres and sustainable virgin fibres, corrugated board formats, and innovative, recyclable packaging solutions for a wide range of industries and applications. The energy required to produce its paper and packaging solutions is largely generated in-house at the company’s sites, predominantly from renewable sources.

Energy data management & battery storage optimisation
Klingele was looking for a modern visualisation solution because the existing system no longer met the company’s growing requirements.
Due to peak loads of 1,452 kW, Klingele planned to install a BESS. However, the full potential of the storage unit can only be realised with the right control.

In flexOn, all energy consumption at the Hilpoltstein site is fully recorded and visualised. The smart energy management platform automatically collects measurement data from various sources – from production equipment to meters and sensors – and presents it in an intuitive dashboard. This allows Klingele to see at a glance when and where energy is being consumed, where peak loads occur and which processes offer optimisation potential.

In the next step, a battery storage system was integrated, with its operation now intelligently controlled by flexOn. The AI-based platform analyses consumption and feed-in data in real time, forecasts load profiles and automatically decides when energy should be stored or released. In this way, flexOn helps Klingele reduce peak loads during high-load periods, take advantage of favourable day-ahead electricity prices in the future and make optimal use of self-generated electricity.
“Initially, our goal was simply to implement a new visualisation for our energy monitoring system. We contacted several providers on the market and, during our discussions with encentive, realised just how many additional functions the system offers. This allowed us to address a wide range of challenges that we had previously planned to tackle with different systems. As a result, encentive has become not only our partner for energy monitoring but also the intelligence behind our decarbonisation strategy.”

Clear visibility of all energy flows through an intuitive dashboard with reporting and analysis functions
Lowering peak loads from 1,452 kW to 1,027 kW and, in future, optimising spot market opportunities
Enhanced return on investment (ROI) for the battery storage system through automatic optimisation and control

Before flexOn, Peter Bade GmbH lacked visibility of its energy flows. With our smart energy management system, the company overcame these challenges, increased self-consumption of its solar installation, and achieved significant savings.

Backshop Tiefkühl’s previous energy management system could no longer keep up with rising demands. The company therefore chose the smart platform flexOn, which increases self-consumption of the solar installation and reduces energy use – a sustainable and economical solution.
